Speech Recognition does much more than convert speech-to-text.

When speech recognition was introduced to healthcare it was with the promise of doing away with medical transcriptionists, before the implementation of electronic medical records. The promise was that clinicians would be able to dictate clinical notes and document findings without touching a keyboard or picking up a phone. This has rarely been the case. In fact, most providers today spend more time in front of a computer than they do in front of a patient.

Reality quickly set in as it became clear that speech recognition programs often weren’t very accurate. It didn’t help that many of these programs required expensive PC upgrades and a lot of IT support.

Computing hardware has improved over the years and the programs got more accurate at interpreting what clinicians spoke. Even so, many providers still weren’t comfortable with the time, effort and cost required to use speech recognition. And, providers didn’t want to be limited where they could work or on which devices.

Things have changed….

SayIt™ from nVoq is on the cutting edge of making speech recognition a reality for today’s clinicians by providing the tools that are needed for them to do their job, without being disruptive. nVoq is using the latest technology to provide an out-of-the-cloud, simple and intuitive user experience that goes well beyond speech-to-text

What are some of the benefits SayIt provides beyond just capturing clinical narrative? Sure, for providers who are challenged at the keyboard, that alone can be a big time savings. But the real benefits lie in using voice to drive and populate the templatized workflow that’s such a large percentage of today’s EMR workflow. Our most productive SayIt users are doing this right now:

  • Navigating Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH, Athena and many more EMR’s, using voice commands rather than multiple mouse clicks.
  • Using Radiology, Cardiology and Gastroenterology templates to quickly document their findings.
  • Utilizing SayIt in multiple clinical environments, using Citrix, RDP, thin-clients and mobile devices.

With SayIt, cloud-based speech recognition has a whole new meaning. Continue to follow us as we strive to define the future of voice in Healthcare.
